Met Gala 2018: Celebs Who Actually Tried

By Gal Dagan | News | 08/05/18

The Met Gala 2018 is the biggest fashion event of the year. With the greatest and most prominent faces from fashion, art, music and film showing up in over the top creations for a night of fundraising, we couldn't wait to see who goes all out and who completely fails to adhere to the night's theme. This year's exhibition theme and thus also fashion guideline is Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.

The Met Gala 2018 marked the institute's 70th fundraising anniversary, and was co-chaired by Amal Clooney, Rihanna and Donatella Versace alongside US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

Once the pictures were out I just couldn't wait to curate my very own Best Dressed list. Without further ado, here are the best looks of the night according to Fashiola.

Met Gala 2018: Best Dressed List

Met Gala 2018: Celebs Who Actually Tried

1. Rihanna

Rihanna always slays the game, that's just how it is. She never disappoints with her picks, and this year once again was my all time personal favourite. There's simply nothing Rihanna could do that I wouldn't love.

Wearing Maison Margiela, Rihanna is looking like a saint straight from fashion heaven.

2. Chadwick Boseman

We don't see many men take on the challenge of wearing something out of the box, something original that is not a black or blue suit. Chadwick truly went all out in a white, custom-made embellished tuxedo with a matching bejeweled cape by Atelier Versace. One of my favourite men's looks of all times, this is an example of how menswear should do Met.

3. Cardi B

Pregnant and all, Cardi B looked absolutely stunning with designer Jeremy Scott in all white-cream-goldish embellished dress with a massive trail by Moschino. A+ for the whole look, including the enormous headpiece that just took my breath away.

A vision. Honestly, truly. ???? photo: @griff_lipson

4. Ariana Grande

Looking like an absolute angel sent from above, Ariana wore a custom-made Vera Wang gown for her Met Gala debut. With a Sistine Chapel print all over and a lace bow on top of her iconic ponytail she looked absolutely gorgeous.

5. Katy Perry

I must admit I'm usually not quite the fan of Katy Perry, whether that's fashion or music wise. But she truly stepped up her game this year in a custom Versace dress with tremendous pair of wings. She gets 10 points only for carrying them around all night!

6. Lena Waithe

Lena took the night's theme and made it completely her own. With a Carolina Herrera black suit and a cape that becomes a rainbow, she made a pride statement. She said: "I’ve got the community on my back to make sure they know I’ve got them all the time. The theme to me is like be yourself. You were made in God’s image, right?" Well said, Lena, well said.

7. Blake Lively

I'm quite biased here, actually. I've got a huge love for everything Blake says, does, acts in or wears.. whoops. But you've got to admit she looks just absolutely brilliant in this Versace bordeaux embellished gown.

8. Greta Gerwig

Nailing the century's theme vibe, Greta went perhaps a bit lower key but for sure wore the angelical aspects well. In a The Row gown, Greta is one of my favourite looks of the night.

These were my personal top 8 looks of the night. Which one did you love? Which one did you think stuck best to the night's theme? Don't hesitate to leave your answer in a comment!
